Microfilm Scanning
The idea of reducing photographed images down at a high reduction with the ability to
decipher them under magnification began in 1839 as a personal hobby. In 1851 it was
first suggested as a method of document preservation and evolved through many forms
and processes until the microfilm format that is still used today was developed in 1940.
Earlier film bases used were nitrate film which was explosive and flammable and later
cellulose acetate based film was more prone to chemical decay and spotting. New film
bases can now last for hundreds of years if stored in the right conditions.
Rapter can scan all types and formats of microfilm, creating a high definition digital
image of the original document which in todays digital age can be of benefit in so
many ways, it can also provide a backup to older film which may be facing degradation.
Images can be supplied in any of the industry standard formats e.g. TIFF, PDF & JPEG
with other image processing and services available to tailor them exactly to your needs.
We offer a range of data delivery options which include the Web, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, USB
External Devices & Tape. A worldwide courier service is also available.
